Closures of part of A291 Herne Street then followed by Albion Lane, Herne, near Herne Bay are planned from 13 August 2018, as follows.
A291 HERNE STREET will be closed from Monday 13 August 2018 for up to 3 weeks
Closure between the junctions with Albion Lane and School Lane
~ There will be no direct access between Canterbury and Herne Bay using the A291 during these works ~
The alternative route is via A291 Herne Street, Canterbury Road, Calcott Hill, Herne Bay Road, Sturry Hill, A28 Island Road, Staines Hill, Island Road, Canterbury Road (Sarre), St Nicholas Roundabout, A299 Thanet Way, A291 Canterbury Road and Herne Street
Access for St Martin’s Church and Chapel Row will be maintained when it is safe to do so, but there are likely to be delays and certain times when this is not possible for safety reasons
ALBION LANE, HERNE will then be closed between the junctions with A291 Herne Street and Albion Close.
Closure for up to 3 weeks.
This closure is in conjunction with temporary traffic lights on A291 Herne Street
The alternative route for Albion Lane is via A291 Herne Street, Canterbury Road and Curtis Wood Park Road
Access to the remainder of A291 Canterbury Road / Herne Street continues from either direction up to where the road is actually closed.
The closures are to enable Forefront Utilities Ltd to carry out gas mains replacement works, working with SGN Gas.
Due to the nature of these works, it will not be possible to lift the restrictions outside the working hours.
The works have been timed to be carried out during the school holidays, to reduce their impact
Some delays are to be expected, especially at busier times, so it is recommended that motorists allow extra time for their journeys or consider using alternative routes during these works.
There is a chance that the works may over-run for such reasons as adverse weather conditions or unforeseen engineering difficulties.
