TEMPORARY ORDER 2019
To allow section 278 works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an
Order to temporarily prohibit through traffic on part of Thornden Wood Road, Herne Bay.
A closure is planned from 6th January 2020, with estimated completion by 13th
January 2020. The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate
signage on site and the works will be displayed on one.network
Thornden Wood Road will be closed between the junctions with Molehill Road and
Greenhill Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Owls Hatch Road, Bullockstone
Road, Greenhill Road and vice versa.
Temporary mandatory speed restrictions will be in place in both directions on
Thornden Wood Road from 9th December 2019 until 22 December 2019, to the
extent clearly indicated by relevant signage displayed on site.
1. A compulsory 30 mph speed limit will be in force from the existing 30 mph
signs southwards up to the entrance to the Electricity Sub Station.
2. A compulsory 40 mph speed limit will be in force from the entrance to the
Electricity Sub Station for 100 metres in a southerly direction up to the A299
overbridge.
The closure and compulsory speed limits are required for the safety of the
public and workforce while section 278 carriageway works are undertaken by
Walker Construction Ltd.
Access for emergency service vehicles, pedestrians and local residents will be
maintained at all times during the closure.
Due to the nature of these works, it will not be possible to reopen the road
outside of working hours.
