TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2020
To allow Section 278 works and utility connections to be carried out in safety, Kent County Council has made an Order to temporarily prohibit through traffic on A2990 Thanet Way and Greenhill Bridge Road, Herne Bay.
Phased night time closures are planned from 4th August 2020, between the hours of 19:00 and 05:00 (weekdays only), as detailed below.
Phase 1 – Closure of the A2990 Thanet Way between its junction with Greenhill Bridge Road and Chestfield Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site – with access maintained up to the HGV entrance to the recycling centre.
The alternative route for through traffic is via A2990 Thanet Way, A291 Canterbury Road, A299 Thanet Way and A291 Clapham Hill and vice versa.
Phase 2 – Closure of the A2990 Thanet Way, in a westbound direction only, between its junction with Flamingo Drive and Greenhill Bridge Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for through traffic is via A2990 Thanet Way, A291 Canterbury Road, A299 Thanet Way and A291 Clapham Hill.
Phase 3 – Closure of Greenhill Bridge Road between its junction with Sea Street and the A2990 Thanet Way, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site – with access maintained up to Willett Close.
The alternative route for through traffic is via A2990 Thanet Way, Canterbury Road, High Street, Avenue Road and Sea Street and vice versa.
The above closures are due to commence from 4 August with only one phase closed on any one night, the anticipated durations are phase 1 up to 6 nights (including Saturday if required), phase 2 up to 2 nights and phase 3 up to 3 nights.
The closures are required for the safety of the public and workforce while utility works and S278 highway alteration and construction works are undertaken by Walker Construction Ltd.
Access for emergency service vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during the closure.
